We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Payments Officer to join our busy payments team.

Job Purpose

Operating within a designated payments team consisting of 6 people processing high volume transactions, FX settlements, reconciliations and cash allocations for our international payments business.

Person Specification

We are looking for an individual who currently possesses the following skills:

  • An excellent communicator the candidate will possess high-level analytical skills and attention to detail
  • A keen interest in the development of those within the team is required
  • Demonstrable skills within a regulated, high-volume payments environment

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Take an active role within the team in allocating incoming and outgoing payments, domestic and international
  • Ensure payments are made accurately and on time ensuring SLA’s are met
  • Assist the Head of Backoffice (Payments) in developing and driving implementation of leading best practice payments operations, strategies and processes
  • Work with junior team members to ensure performance, and accuracy and build knowledge
  • Supporting and contributing to identifying and implementing operational efficiencies
  • Support new projects related to the overall improvement of payment operations and reconciliations
  • Act as a key internal point of contact for all payment-related queries
  • Ensure all processes adhere to legal/regulatory requirements, internal policies and guidelines
  • Investigate outstanding payments within SWIFT, BACS, CHAPS and liaise with banks and external counterparties to resolve transaction queries
  • Escalate payment issues where necessary to the point of resolution
  • Collaborate with Treasury to support the daily liquidity management process
  • Ensure all bank accounts, transactions and systems are reconciled daily
  • Provide a solution-focused approach and the ability to make objective/evidence-based decisions and influence recommendations and decisions using experience, knowledge insights
  • Support the identification and management of service-affecting incidents
  • Take an energetic and focused approach to delivering exceptional service to the business
  • Report suspicious activity to the Head of Compliance and MLRO

Qualification & Experience

  • Knowledge and experience of payment platforms, SWIFT, reconciliations, investigations and query management within a high volume, high-value environment
  • Knowledge of SWIFT in a cross-border payments context
  • Straight Through Payment Processing and best-in-class systems
  • Knowledge of handling payment exceptions and manual payments
  • Knowledge of regulatory framework and AML procedures
  • Personal resilience and ability to perform effectively in a high-pressure environment with a positive “can do” attitude and a positive attitude to change
  • Advanced level of Excel
  • Possess excellent analytical skills, with the ability to think independently and draw conclusions
  • Learning mind-set and willingness to develop
  • Ability to work well under pressure, maintaining high accuracy, in a fast-paced environment
  • 3+ years of proven experience in a payments role for a financial services business, consumer lending business or retail bank
